Demons are former humans[1] with varying degrees of intelligence who have lost all emotion.[2] They are able to shapeshift and thus have no definite shape, ranging from miasmic blobs for most demons to human-like forms in extreme cases. They are almost completely subject to the will of their human contractor, and are vulnerable to magius.
Overview[]
Demons are creatures composed of miasma that plague the realm, and are the main antagonist of Deor. Most are aligned with Invidia's goal to exterminate humanity,[3] with some exceptions, such as Deor Fluenti, Yulli, and the one within the Crown.
According to Aequali de Roma and the one within the crown, all demons were once humans who had transcended into a demon from losing all of their emotions.[4] This is why most demons are devoid of intelligence and awareness, taking on abstract shapes and only having the ability to use its miasma to consume living beings. However, in exceptional cases, there are demons that can speak and are able to shapeshift into human-like forms, such as Aequali himself. Fewer still are those that can feel emotions despite being a demon, such as Deor and the one within the crown.
Abilities[]
Demons are capable of consuming human beings and other animals. They are able to form a contract with a human host and be controlled by the host. Intelligent demons can shapeshift into a myriad of various forms, including animals and humans. Their presence is unable to be sensed by magius-wielding humans, as they have no magius.
Weaknesses[]
Demons are vulnerable to and can perish from magius. If they are struck by a spell, their miasma will dissipate at the area they were hit; regeneration is often needed to recover what was lost. Additionally, demon contractees of lesser intelligence tend to be cowards, often breaking their contract and fleeing if an opponent is too powerful.[5]
